"Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them." (Psalm 96:12)

How We Raise Our Animals

The discussion below provides a brief account of how we manage our farm in a natural and beneficial way. We seek to raise our animals in a healthy, sanitary manner for their vitality and pleasure and ultimately, to cultivate the best product for you consumption.

Pastured Poultry

After varying measures of success using the free-range method of pasturing, we adopted an innovation of grazing poultry with electric netting and portable roosts. The netting allows us to concetrate our chickens in one area of pasture, thereby preventing them from wandering off, laying eggs in bushes or being eaten by predators. The solid but lightweight netting is electrified providing a robust barrier to enclose our chickens and protect them from any four-legged predators. After a length of one or two days, we move them on to a fresh paddock of grass, where they can roam, forage in the grass and eat insects. In the summer time we pace them four days behind the cows in our rotations so that the chickens can nourish themselves on the fly larvae in the cow manure and spread the patties out in the process, fertilizing the soil. Their feed is composed of hand-mixed certified organic grains, and they are watered with filtered water. In addition they are fed grit, which helps them digest their meals more efficiently, and oyster shells for their egg shells.

Grass-fed Beef

We rotate our cattle throughout our land so they can fully graze the grass in the current paddock. Then they move on to another paddock and let the grass re-grow and abound. This process is highly superior to free-range grazing in that it builds up the soil and forage quality by keeping the grass from not being constantly eaten. For fencing we use electric wires which serve as a psychological boundary for the cows. We supplement our cattle's diet with Redmond natural trace mineral salts and Thorvin kelp, which help provide them with important minerals. In addition, we provide them with water that has been filtered from harmful chemicals.
